The Experience of NYC....
Make no mistake about it, New York City is one of the greatest cities on the planet. It's magnitude is overwhelming and the skyscrapers in Manhatten are breathtaking....
We started our cruise experience in NYC by traveling there 2 days prior to boarding the cruise ship. This was one of the best decisions we made as it gave us a few days to experience NYC. We stayed in Jersey City across the Hudson River which was delightful. Jersey City is substantially less expensive for a hotel room ( $80.00 night ) and the city seemed more like a community. Everyone in Jersey City has a dog! This is definitely a city of immigrants. I found it to be charming filled with small parks and public venues everywhere. It is definitely the place to get a Jersy Sub! They are HUGE and very fresh. Coming from Alaska, i found the prices very reasonable. Unlike the people in NYC, the citizens of Jersey City are much more relaxed enjoying their local environment. The next day ( April 19th ) we caught the train into NYC to lower Manhatten and the World Trade center. The fare was only $12.50
Emerging from the trains, this is what we experienced....
World Trade Center
Train Station.
I felt like I was in the belly of a huge whale!
Emerging outside we were only a few blocks from the Freedom Tower and the 9 / 11 memorials. This is a very respectful and reverent experience.
The fountains which noted every victim, was marked with white roses for those who had birthdays on this day and American flags for any veterans who lost their lives on this national day of tragedy. It was very impactful...
And then there was the Freedom Tower...
From here, we took a Hop on Hop off Bus tour all over Lower Manhatten and then transferred later in the day to the Upper East side around Central Park. This is an excellent way to get around NYC, see the major sites and avoid the massive conjestion on the streets....
And then on to Upper Mantatten and Central Park
Museum District...
Some of the historic buildings
lining Central Park...
The Dakota Apartments
where a deranged
Mark Chapman took
John Lennon's life...
The World famous Guggenheim Art Museum designed by Frank Loyde Wright
Trees overhanging the
streets from Central Park
The cathedral where
Donald and Ivanka
Trump were married...
That evening we took a ride on the Hudson River to experience the night lights of the skyscrapers....
The next morning, April 20th we boarded the Norwegian Cruise Ship Dawn to begin our 14 day journey across the Atlantic...
Goodbye New York City...
